mollie is 11 weeks ans she has a whole bunch of toys right now she is running around the house with the toy in her mouth ans running into doors and i dont know how to stop her because if i put her in her cage then that will tell her not to have fun... help

She sounds as though she's a little whirlwind! Does she get plenty of vigorous exercise outside and/or daily walks? A tired puppy is usually a good puppy!
You didn't say what breed she is but some breeds tend towards being a little hyperactive or highly-strung and can easily get overexcited which usually ends in them running around wildly, barking and nipping at things. Too many toys and a lot of noise or fuss can bring that on in no time.
Puppies have very short attention spans and it's a good idea to limit her toys to 3 or 4 a day and then change them out for a different 3 or 4 the next day and so on. This helps to keep your puppy from getting bored with all her toys. The Kong toys that you fill with peanut butter or special doggy treats or the treat balls that roll around and dispense treats are usually fairly good at holding a puppy's attention for more than 2 minutes.
You could set up a small exercise pen in the house, or put up a doggy/child gate to confine her to a smaller space which may help stop the headlong running. Rather than scoop her up and put her in a crate which will make her feel like she's being punished, you could try to settle her down with quiet stroking and talking and perhaps a very tasty chew toy before putting her in her crate - without making any fuss about it. She'll probably complain but will soon learn to lie down quietly for short periods. If you're not already crate training her it would probably be a good idea to start.

You need too get the dog check for eyesight. If that's okay try playing fetch for a little while. That way she won't be running into doors she'll be bringing it back for you to throw it again.
Maybe you should throw her toys she might want to play with you
My 9 week old is the same way right now, and he runs into everything- the latest was the fridge-lol! And you are right, it will show her not to have fun, but a good solution would be to block off a small part of the house( maby the size of a walk in closet)and give her 1 toy, when she calms down give her another- and if signs are good let her go! This is like the 'terrible twos' and is pretty much what puppy's will do- a few other ideas i have used are:
-get a small dog run for outside,she can run and play- but with a limit.
-Dog obedience classes at petsmart or petco! These things are worth thier weight in gold!in will really calm them down---- to an extent... puppys will be puppys!good luck!

My puppy is chewing on cement and licking dirt?
He is teething right now but wants to chew away at my cement step outside and also a terra cotta pot that has a plant in it...he leaves the plant alone and chews on the outside of the pot. He will also lick dirt...but it seems to be a sandy dirt that he favours!!..He is on vet approved homemade food with an added supplement of vitamins and minerals (supplied by the vet) Anyone have any ideas why he might do this?

My puppy is always trying to bite my hands. Will he stop on his own once he stops teething?
My puppy is about 5 months and just lost his last baby tooth yesterday. His "big boy" teeth are still coming in, so I know if must feel good to him to bite my hands. Do I need to train him to stop doing this? Or will he just stop on his own as he gets older and the teeth are fully grown? Any suggestions on how to teach him?

Make sure you are not playing with him with your hands - otherwise he'll just think he's horsing around and playing with your hand like it's a littermate.
Be consistent. If you don't want him to bite hands, you need to say No! everytime he does it and when he stops say Good Boy -- and praise praise praise.

Yes, puppies sure do bite, dont they? I have always heard the best thing to do is to get a rope chew toy or a rag, run it under water, and stick it in the freezer, give it to them to chew on and that helps them when they are teething. He should grow out of the biting.
I would suggest you start training him not to bite you now or he will continue as he gets older. Both our Boxers were really mouthy when they were teething. Everytime they would start nipping at us I would say "no" and give them an appropriate toy (something hard like a Kong) to chew on. DO NOT give them anything like a shoe because they will not be able to tell the difference between their shoe and your good shoes. Nothing with pieces they can chew off (like teddy bear eyes, etc.) and watch for furniture legs, ours liked to try and gnaw on those.
this is normal for all puppies. i just got a dark gray american pitbull terrier pup and he's been bitting me a lot and imagine the fact that he's a pitbull. so he kinda bites strong for a pup. but not to the point whre it will peirce my skin. but the way i see it pups bite and stop biting less as they grow just like babies bite everything they see until they get old enough to realize they shouldnt bite just anything cuz its very unhealthy and dangerous.
p.s. - and no im not training my pit for dog fighting. im not that kind of person. i love dogs to death and never a day in my life i didnt have a dog. i grew up loving dogs. i just got a pitbull because its a strong corageous and handsome dog just like im a srong corageous handsome guy. haha.

In the meantime when he goes to grab your hand, move them out of his reach with a sharp, deep-voiced 'NO'. If he is persistent then stand up and look down at him and again, keeping your hands out of his reach repeat the 'NO'. If he catches hold of your hand, fold the captured hand into a fist,(while it is in his mouth) as you grab hold of his collar and looking him in the eyes again the command is the hard, deep-voiced 'NO'. The reason for the fist is that he can't bite down if the back of his jaw is impeded. Do not hit, smack, swat, squeal like a captured mouse or whine at him, all of the these sounds will be interpreted as submissive. This is the quickest method of stopping the biting but this type of behavior is caused by a number of things that a qualified trainer can help you set to rights.

we have a 12 wk old pit/ rott puppy and he has started to scratch under his arms and is getting scabs under there. we took him to the vet 3 days ago and he clipped his nails and said it was from his nails he is still scratching ,and now he is biting at his butt , we have treated him for fleas but iono? does anyone know what this could be or mean?

You did the right thing taking him to the vet the first time, but he may need to go again. Call the vet and explain how the situation has changed. He will porbably need to see your dog again. It could be a parasite like fleas, could be alergires, or could be something else.
Please take him to another vet to get a second opinion, he could have a skin condition or be allergic to something. He could develop very nasty sores if left un treated. Good Luck.

He could have dry skin too. Taking him back to the vet is a good idea. In the mean time, until you can get him back, try rubbing some lotion into his skin. maybe baby lotion,
With the biting of his butt, is he also losing weight? i am wondering whether the 2 are related, even. the fact that he's biting at the butt could be something gastrointestinal, like some sort of GI parasite, like worms or something... If he's losing weight, and if there's a change in appetite, that's something to consider.
Biting at the butt is usually a sign of worms. You can either take him back to the vets or go to a pet shop for worming medications.
The scratching is usually a sign of fleas especially at that age.
Ask the vet for a flea injection and als buy some flea shampoo and spray to use on your dog. Also advised would be to hoover your carpets daily and possibly use a carpet spray that will kill any fleas that may be living on your carpet.

Wow whos your vet? What would itchy armpits have anything to do with his nails being clipped. Anyway. It sounds like your dog has allergies. Pit bulls are very prone to them. He may start itching and chewing on his stomach and feet, also an area affected by allergies. There is actually a new way by blood work to be able to tell exactly what dogs are allergic too. Its pretty expensive since its relatively new but it works. I would go check with other vets and get a different opinion then your vets thought.
Your dog has just been vaccinated, correct? And now he's biting. Toxins from vaccinations have to come out somewhere....and it will show under the arms, the feet, the ears, the extremities. I would personally be a bit relieved to see this..although only if it goes away. I would personally antidote the vaccination....mail me privately if you want to know how. Treat the sore areas with Calendula cream, which you should be able to get from your health shop. Also, what are you feeding? Make sure that it's a good food, and not full of fillers and corn and rubbish. But if it gets worse, go back to the vet.
most likely if its not fleas its dry skin. i worked at a groomers and saw it all the time. go to wal mart or wherever and pick up some shampoo that says oatmeal. oatmeal shampoo works like lotion on our skin. make sur eu get in rinsed out all the way or it will make the issue worse. if u notice after the bath he is scratching less then u have found the problem depending on how bad it is it might take sveral baths. once u solve it just keep a normal schedule good luck

You did the right thing taking him to the vet the first time, but he may need to go again. Call the vet and explain how the situation has changed. He will porbably need to see your dog again. It could be a parasite like fleas, could be alergires, or could be something else.
Please take him to another vet to get a second opinion, he could have a skin condition or be allergic to something. He could develop very nasty sores if left un treated. Good Luck.
my mom has a dog that has a skin disorder and use to do the same thing thre is a lotion and a special conditioner you can put on them to help also i had a dog that was allergic to some kinds of shampoos
He could have dry skin too. Taking him back to the vet is a good idea. In the mean time, until you can get him back, try rubbing some lotion into his skin. maybe baby lotion,
With the biting of his butt, is he also losing weight? i am wondering whether the 2 are related, even. the fact that he's biting at the butt could be something gastrointestinal, like some sort of GI parasite, like worms or something... If he's losing weight, and if there's a change in appetite, that's something to consider.
Biting at the butt is usually a sign of worms. You can either take him back to the vets or go to a pet shop for worming medications.
The scratching is usually a sign of fleas especially at that age.
Ask the vet for a flea injection and als buy some flea shampoo and spray to use on your dog. Also advised would be to hoover your carpets daily and possibly use a carpet spray that will kill any fleas that may be living on your carpet.

This would be a good time to change. Always check with your vet as to what type of food may be best for you puppy. Change his food gradually over a week. The first 2 days do a mixture of 70% old and 30% new dog food. The following 2 days do a mixture of 50-50. The next 2 days, 70% new food and 30% old food. On the 7th day, your dog should be ready for all new food. The first 2-3 days, you may notice a different color stool or loose stool. If it is still loose by the 4th day, contact your vet. Your dog may not be digesting it well.

Sure you can but it has to be done slowly. A sudden change will cause the pup to have a very upset stomach and even diarrhea. so get the new food and mix it into the old food for about a week then decrease the old food more and more each day.
You can switch to another brand that is balanced in nutrition for young puppies. But don't do it often, it will cause problems with digestive system.
that all depends, what brand you are using, what is the crude protein produced by that food, what is the first ingredient in your food. Make sure it is a meat. STAY AWAY FROM PEDIGREE AND OL ROY

Yes...you can switch at any time. It is important when switching the brand of dog food to do it gradually. Mix 1/2 and 1/2 (1/2 new and 1/2 old). Do this for a week and then you can totallyswitch to the new kind. I have a puppy as well and that is what mine vet told me to do.

(like BEEF or CHICKEN or LAMB, for example) and not a byproduct (like CHICKEN MEAL) also, try to stay away from foods with a high wheat or corn content since many dogs develop allergies to such ingredients. Choose the appropriate kind of food for your bread. Many dog foods makers make large breed formulas now to accomodate the needs of large puppies who grow much more quickly.
And be aware of the recent recalls on food. Check out the website for whatever new food you decide on to make sure that they are safe!
And finally, some may say that when you change your puppy's food, you must do so gradually. This is fine, but not necessary. The same as how you and I can eat different things different days, your dog can too!
