It could be demodex mange, which is not contagious to humans or your other pets. It is passed down from mom to pup.
Take him to the vet to get the proper diagnosis, and to find out about starting treatment.
Also, once he has been treated and then mange is under control, get him neutered. It has been found that getting your dog spayed or neutered can reduce the risk of recurrent flare ups of this type of mange. (yes, even after being treated it can come back...the mites live on the dogs skin.)
You should also make sure you are feeding a quality, healthy food to boost his immune system to help him fight off any secondary infections. I like Fish and Chips (trout and sweet potato) and Lamb Millet and Rice from http://www.frrco.com/121668
I hope this helps!
It's ring worm the vet has meds for the dog it's a 7 day treatment just pills worms like hook and ring and others live in the dirt out side and alls he got to do is step in any spot that the worm live and he can get them go to the vet and let them look at it and they will tell you it's ring worm I have a female lab that had the same thing we got her pills and in 2 weeks it was gone
I don't think it is ring worm. Ring worm has obvious little red circles like you've been burned by a cigarette. And it's not really a worm it's a fungus. Yours sounds sorta like mange, but take him to a vet to find out for sure. Pits can have very sensitive skin, so a change in climate, diet or exposure to fleas can cause skin irritation. My sister has one and he is practically bald.
Take.him.to.a.vet for diagnosis and treatment. Then buy him a wig.
Could be a few things. If the hair loss is in patches it could quite possibly be mange. Sounds to me like allergies though. Especially with the dry flaky skin. Take your dog to the vet to have a skin scraping done to rule out mange. Hopefully this can be cured with something as simple as a diet change.
Are you sure it is not staffordshire terrier instead? because the dog is the right age range where follicular dysplasia can occur in staffs, which is a genetic problem

Hair loss can be a few different things in dogs. It is best to take your dog to the vet to get a correct diagnosis. It could be demodex mites, which is not contagious to humans, but sometimes contagious to other dogs if they have a weak immune system. And pit bulls do seem to be very susceptible to it. It could also be sarcoptic mange, which is contagious to humans. Or it could be ringworm, which is also contagious to humans. Or it could be a less common skin condition. It is best to get him to the vet to find out what he has. Good Luck.
It could also be fleas or allergies, but again, you won't know until you talk to your veterinarian.
