My puppy craps inches from where he is supposed to?

I just got this puppy and he will crap inches away from his "piddle pad" I'm sick of it and if i cant break him from that habit soon I'm gonna have to get rid of him. I don't want to but I have a nine month old son and he just started crawling and I don't need him picking anything up. So if anyone could help I would appriciate it
Answers:
First of all, you need to watch your puppy very carefully so that if you see him starting to go to the bathroom in a place you don't want him to you can tell him to Wait and move him gently onto the spot you want him to go. Once he does, reward him and he'll know he did something good and will repeat the behavior and go on the pad.

If he does have an accident, make sure to use Nature's Miracle to clean it up. It's a stain and odor remover, and it disinfects the carpet or wherever he went to the bathroom.

Second of all, watching the puppy more carefully will ensure that your son doesn't crawl into any mess because you will find the mess and clean it up before your baby can make it there. Try keeping the dog confined to a part of your house, rather than letting it roam around freely right now, until it learns where to go to the bathroom: use a babygate or a playpen so it has room to run around and play but won't make a mess in a place you won't find it.
YOu can read an article on it at DogChannel.com - see the link reference about positive potty training - they have hundreds of house training articles.
Can't you just move his 'piddle pad' a few inches in the right direction?
That same thing happened to my 2 month old poodle. So, we tried the going outside method. He sniffed around, then went inside then peed and/or pooped a few steps inside the door. We didn't know to do, so we gave him back. Wait, no, we game him to our cousins. The he ran away. sad, my mom thought that he had something mentally wrong with him. May I ask what kind of dog the pup is?
He's a puppy, at least he is going in the general direction that you desire. Instead of using puppy pads and teaching him that it's acceptable to go to the bathroom in the house, perhaps you could work on potty training him to go outside, then you would not have issues with your young son...what's the difference if your dog goes to the bathroom inches from your puppy pad? It's still going to be within reach of your son.

good luck!
