My pup bits his tail and legs a lot. Is it a serious matter?

I have examined his skin for any parasite or wound and found nothing, I shower him daily and once in a week with anti- lice shampoo.

I agree on not bathing the dog too much. In fact, after learning from my vet, I rarely ever give a soap / shampoo bath to my dog.

All I do is give my 2 GSDs a water bath whenever - about 2-3 wks a bath. No shampoo, just rinse them with water, let them shake it off, then towel them dry.

Keep the coat healthy by brushing in between the baths. And you'll be surprised, the skin is healthy because the essential skin oils haven't been stripped, and less skin problems. The smell is under control too. Even if you used shampoo, the doggy smell would always come back 2-3 days after. No difference.

I recommend everybody should try this. Save money on unnecessary shampoos too.

Of course, if you need to show your dog in a competition or something, you'll need a soapy bath.

Otherwise, the skin could be itchy because of a food allergy. maybe if you change your brand of dog food, that could help. Maybe some of the more 'holistic' brands out there.

That's my advice.
You might be bathing him too much. Perhaps you should take him to the vet, your vet will be able to better diagnose any skin condition or behavioral issues.
The once a week shampoo is probably the problem. Dogs skin is sensative and you are removing all the oils from the skin and he's biting his tail and legs because he's itchy!!! Don't bathe them more than once a month and especially not with irritating anti anything shampoo. Unless your dog is infested, which yours is not, it is not necessary to use a treatment shampoo. Get a gentle, moisturizing dog shampoo and cut back to once a month and the itching will go away.
Dogs should not be showered daily, it will dry out their skin. I'm not sure why you would be using an anti-lice shampoo on him at all, unless he is expeosed to lice on a regular basis, which is highly unlikely..but this is hard on his skin that often as well. Let up on the showering and shampooing, only bathe him as often as he really needs it, that alone may cure him.

He may have some sort of allergies that cause the itching if that doesn't help. Try getting a mild oatmeal based dog shampoo, and use that for when he must be bathed.

If none of this works.think about seeing your vet about possible food or environmental allergies.
it may be allergies, you can give your pup (depending on size) children's benadryl but talk to the vet first.. he can tell you what is a good dose. and dont wash the pup to much the oils on the skin soothe the dryness.
If you are washing your puppy everyday, you are drying out his skin. Anti-lice shampoo is unnecessary and will make him itch and he is probably allergic to it.

Washing him one a month is more better. Your puppy's skin will heal.

If you wash him, use sensitive skin shampoo by Tomlyn and sensitive skin conditioner. It's expensive but it's worth it.

For hot spots, use some Tomlyn Allercaine with Bittran to stop the itch. It's an antiseptic.
His skin is irritated. Its never recommended to bathe a dog more than once a week, their skin gets too dry. Just give him a bath once a week.
sounds like you are giving baths too often and its making his skin dry...try bathing him only once a week..and if he's still doing that..try only bathing him once every 2 weeks. and if he's STILL doing it..then i'd call the vet and tell them whats happening..they maybe able to give you some suggestions on what do to then.

Good luck!
