My Labrador will never drink tap water, does anyone know why?

SHE'LL DRINK DIRTY RAIN WATER AND MILK. ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY
Answers:
have you tried going to the store and getting a gallon of water that does not have chlorine and other additives in it or getting a filter or something. I don't taste it but I am sure the dog tastes the additives in tap water and there is probably one that he thinks tastes worse than dirt.
If your dog will not drink the tap water, that tells me that there maybe something in the water that you can not detect. I would get a water purifier on your home
my dog wont drink tap either.
they wont drink it beacuse their is salt and chemicals in it
try fresh water from the sink =)
yes get your water checked, dogs have a much higher sense of smell and she obviously does not like something about it. you can get a good quality filter fitted for around 拢100.
Water from the sink IS tap water.katie.
Smart dog!!
I won't drink tap water either and I've avoided a lot of the 24 hour type "flus" that regularly hit the region. I would never let my children drink it either and they were also spared. The only time they had lapses was when they used the fountains at school. Yuch!
Yes she will. She will not allow herself to not drink, and if that is her only option she will drink it. Dogs did survive for thousands of years drinking from puddles, so that's not too bad, but NEVER give her cow's milk. She cannot digest the lactose in it, and it can cause severe intestional issues!
You're tap water may not taste right to her...she might taste too many chemicals, there might be rust or turpentine, or something else in it that you can't see/taste/smell because you're only human with human senses.

Your dog's senses are stronger. I would take that into consideration. Try seeing if she'll take bottled water. If you have city water, try her on well water. Try her on water from a different city (where the water is taken to a different filteration and purification process before going through home pipes...that sort of thing).

If she's willing to drink bottled water or other person's water then you might have a problem with your water and you should call whoever purifies and filters the water for your city/county. Or even see if it could be your plumbing. Because chances are, if she'll drink rain water and bottled water that there could be something wrong with your tap water and you shouldn't be drinking it either

And by the way.make sure if you're giving your dog milk...it's not the milk you drink from the store. Dog's can only have unpasturized goat's or cow's milk. Some dogs can't even take that. It messes up their system and can make them really sick.
Rain water is good for them. Water from a tap contains chlorine. My cat is the same
I have a labrador aswell, she isn't keen on tap water either, it's usually the chlorine that puts them off, dont forget that a dogs sense of smell is hundreds times more sensitive than ours, I use filtered water or bottled water for ourselves so it's automaticlly given to her aswell. Try it, it might be your answer.
depending on where u live? it will be the clorine in the tap water she dont like...
Tap water has chlorine in it and the dog can smell and taste this. If you get a pet fountain for the dog it has a built in filter which will take away the chlorine taste and being fresh running water will taste better and the dog will enjoy it.
My dog's total opposite he'll only drink straight from the tap on the bath it's so annoying he sits and crys at the bathroom door for you to turn the tap on
Boil the water in the kettle first and cool it down.

  1. My lab cannot drink tap water, even boiled. When our city water was first hooked up she developed severe diarrhea and had to be put on an IV for a day. After a month of bottled water, I tried tap water again that was left outside for 24 hours. It didn't matter. It only took one day for the diarrhea to return. Never again.
