Or you can mix ground pepper and water together in a spray bottle. Make sure the smell is pure pepper. Spray this on your entrance. The smell will keep the dog (and cats) away.

Sprinkle down some red pepper around the area. Dogs will sniff before urinating and the pepper will burn the lining of the nose enough to "tell" the pup to move on.
Ugh. You can get dog repellant products at the pet store but they don't always work.
Best would be some kind of booby trap... something that will startle the dog out of its wits without actually hurting him. If he's terrified that your entrance might "attack" him, he'll never go near it again.

Go to the farm store and get an electric fencer. Does not harm animals but discourages them.
Scrub the area down with clorox wash, spray some pet enzyme, and then add some cayenne pepper. If this doesn't work get a Pit Bull!
Wait don't kill him! One way is you can put some kind of pwder or liquid on the grass that dogs hate. Ask a vet about what scent dogs hate. If that doesn't work put a big fence around your entrance.
Try a Scat Mat. Its a light weight battery operated mat that sends light shocks to an animal as soon as he steps on it. Although it can be pretty pricey you should be able to find one under 60$.

My neighbour showed me his new puppy today ...?
It's the cutest, tiniest thing you could ever see (shih-tzu/mini poodle cross). It is also six weeks old. Where did it come from? "Pet shop."
Another friend followed the same route a few weeks ago and bought from a (different) pet shop. Again, a puppy much too young to leave its mother -- and who knows how many health problems they will have, since both almost certainly came from puppy farms?
I am at a loss. These are both supposedly intelligent people, but they don't seem to realise how immoral and irresponsible it is to buy from pet shops. My question: Does any of you good people have any experience in campaigning/educating would-be pet owners against buying from pet shops? Please share, I work for a newspaper and I'd love to start an education campaign in my town!

I tried with my sister and she learned the hard way. She went saying "I am not going to get one, just want to look" 20 minutes later she had just gotten home with her first puppy. They didnt ask her any questions, didnt tell her how to take care of it or anything.. just took her money and gave her a dog... Like a pack of cigarettes, or a loaf of bread.
After realising it did have health problems from being weined too young, she Finaly took my advice on the second one. ( quite a while later) I told her she can get a much healthier, much more trainable, and much happier dog, for less money if she went to a decent breeder. I told her that just supporting a pet shop is like giving money to dog-terrorism. She is supporting overbreeding of mothers, homelessness of puppies, and cruel peoples fat pockets.
Why not donate to a good cause like, bettering your breed and getting healthy pups into good homes.
She couldnt think of a good reason to go to the petstore.
Write an article talking about some of that stuff. Tell people what to look for.. What to ask.. and most importantly tell them why. Working for the newspaper you have an opourtunity to do alot of good with this one.
Try interviewing a vet.. and a good local breeder. I am sure neither would oppose helping.
If you do an article, be sure to post the link to the story.
Informational websites are good too. posting in chat forums... whatever it takes. You cant save them all but you can help a few and thats definately worth a shot if you ask me

Ummm, I'm confused actually. Wouldn't boycotting just mean that all those animals would just be euthanized? Are you saying that in order to save the future of these animals, you have to sacrifice those in the present? I'm not trying to poke fun at your question, I just can't justify killing innocent animals to make a political or "take your pick" point. Even if you do boycott, let's say ONE pet shop in one are, it's just gonna close... wait for there to be a fesh market of "kids" or lonely people wanting a pet, and then re-open. Don't believe me? You should research statistics of pet shops in malls. Remember when you were a kid and went in and looked at the cute pets, and then a few years later the shop closed? Only to reopen again when you were a teen? then close? then reopen again, now that you ahve a small child yourself? I'm just saying, if you dont' save those poor creatures (at least one) they'll just be killed or used as chow for fighting dogs, etc. Then they'll just take the survivors and breed THEM for the next pet shop generation... Sad, but true...

( I am learning myself every day) For that reason I am refusing to stock cats and dogs. I am instead refering all cat and dog sales to the RSPCA (animal shelter) I believe there enough cats and dogs in the world already without having to add to the burden, just to make money. Educate the pet shop owners, which will educate the people.

firstly, theres nothing wrong with mutts. they can actually be better than pure breds because pure breds have smaller gene pools, therefore more genetic problems (i realise you didnt say there was - im just adding this in).
secondly, not all petshops do the wrong thing. I know plenty of petshops who buy from reputable breeders only after the pups are 8 weeks old and immunised and they take extremely good care of the pups they have.
people dont need to avoid petshops altogether. theres plenty of breeders who sell from their door pups who are under age or not immunised too.
therefore, it is not immoral or irresponsible to buy from a petstore.
what is immoral and irresponsible is not enducating yourself about dogs before you buy them, regardless of where they are from.
ask the petshop or breeder how old the pups are, and ask for immunisation papers on both the pups AND the parents.
AND you have a right to ask for vetinary history (and the vets phone number) on both the pups and parents - if the seller is unwilling to give it to you, dont buy the pups.

When talking to people about their pets.. no matter what it is ( nutrition reputable breeding.. puppymills) you have to be kind...( which is a hard one for me because I feel so passionately about it I feel like people are morons who aren't aware!) The second thing is know your facts. I personally use the time I walk my dog to talk to people. When someone is wanting to pet my dog on a walk.. I just make casual conversation that usually leads to talking to them about buying nutritional foods..staying away from petstore brands..) Anyway... as long as you are educated yourself and the person is open minded you can do anything. Bottom line if someone doesnt want to hear something they aren't going to listen. And if it doesn't directly affect their lives they really do not care. Same with pet food.. it took a huge pet recall to make people become aware that they were shoveling **** into their animals mouths.
Unfortunately the idea is to not buy from petstores.. that spot that you free up by buying the puppy is just filled again with another puppy. If we do not buy from petstores soon there will be no market for them. Id like to think those puppies from petstores would go to rescue.. but the world is a horrible place and sometimes unfair things happen.

Start by contacting a rescue like Dogs Deserve Better or Dogs A-Tavelling or one of the many breed specific dog rescues. Just google: dog rescue...I'm sure that you'll get a lot of answers to your question.

Nowadays irresponsibly bred dogs are sold over the internet or through adverts in magazines, shop windows, newspapers etc.
If you work for a newspaper then you have a fantastic opportunity to highlight this problem and make a real difference (and sell an interesting article into the bargain!).
I would say though - make sure you research the subject thoroughly, check all claims from your sources - speak to experienced journalists as well as people that work in pounds and shelters so you don't get tripped up.
There's some clever people whose business interests would be harmed by your article - make sure you have your facts straight, don't exaggerate or you could do more harm than good as well as making yourself look foolish.

People will only continue to breed and sell dogs irresponsibly if people continue to buy dogs that have been bred that way.
Stop paying people to keep producing dogs in puppy mills, and they'll stop doing it. If you buy your dog from a pet shop then you are keeping this vile trade in business, condemning more animals to suffer the same fate.
Dogs from the pound can be very sweet but very nippy. your neighbours shouldn't have taken those pups. they could be sick. are they vaccinated?

My neighbor's dog's birthday is coming up. I want to buy him a Savings Bond. Can I do that? No social#?
My neighbor is all up on his dog. Its an Irish Wolfhound. Big dog! So every year, he throws him a birthday party. I mean, the dog does use the toilet for #1 and #2. Its quite impressive. On top of that, he can also get his own water and food, get the door, and he actually watches TV. So, its kind of cool. He even has a name. He calls him Dave and he says he uses their last name. But see Dave is not a US Citizen. Thats because Dave is a dog. So how can I buy Dave a Savings Bond without a social security number? The only gifts I give are Savings Bonds. Please do not respond if you are going to siggest other girfts. I want to know how I can buy Dave a savings bond.

If he's here legally, tell your neighbor to take Dave to his local social security office to apply for a card. if people can get cards, then i think animals should too. then again, maybe I think you're better off getting Dave a gift card from PET CO.

She could take the dog to the vet for a necropsy (autopsy) and they could check the dog out and see if there is anything in the system. It really could be anything, expecially not knowing what the dog could have gotten into or what it's overall health was in the first place. She could take the dog to the vet for a necropsy (autopsy) and they could check the dog out and see if there is anything in the system. It really could be anything, expecially not knowing what the dog could have gotten into or what it's overall health was in the first place. Listen people, if you have a dog that you allow to be outside, or stands by an open screen door and does nothing all day but BARK BARK BARK, you are next to THE lowest form of life.

Both my other neighbors are plotting to have the dog kidnapped, jokingly, like some of you may have seen in the Seinfeld episode. :)
Honestly, I don't know what to do. I really believe people like this must not have a clue as to how annoying they truly are, and are the 2nd to lowest forms of human life on this planet. Truly selfish people.

Well anyway when they won't get theirs in and mine need to go out I stand with the hose and shoot it between the slats in my privacy fence.

You have my sympathy. You need to check out the noise and nuisance laws in your jurisdiction. Try talking to the neighbors and if that doesn't work call the police. File as many reports as it takes before they finally do something. If they are oblivious to the police calls AND the police stop showing up for your calls---file a complaint at the police station. Get copies of all your police reports. Finally, if all else fails---sue them in small claims court.
You need to go speak with these people. I understand that is difficult because their reaction may be, 'screw you'. And then if you do ever call the police they will know it was you.
The neighbor thing to do is talk to them. Kind of gush on them a bit (also known as blowing smoke up their bum) and ask them to do something about the dog.
You cannot blame the owner. However much some people try.. a dog will bark if it wants/needs to. Thankfully I have a wonderful dalmatian that barks only very rarely and neighbors that hate animals!
Give the dog a big piece of tree bark. That will at least keep him quiet for a while. I have a dog that lives behind my house and the dog does the same thing. I got mad and picked the dog up and put it in my yard. The dog stopped barking and I got my work done. Later the neighbor thinks his dog jumped the fence and keeps him inside. Ha, I win. I love dogs, but some PEOPLE haven't got a clue.

well first of all talk to your neighbor nicely. just say look i'm sorry to bring this up but work from home and your dog is interupting moy conferance calls during the day is there any way you can keep him in side from say 11-3. that wwould be a nice way to handle in, couse if you go over and be nasty she will get nasty back, us dog owners are like that. you can can the police but as long as it's during the day and he is not breaking and noise ordances( which are sound levels in decibals) which is almost impossible, the cops will tell you pretty much do deal will it. so you will end up frusterated. which isn't fair to you. but i was on the other end of the fence not so long ago, i was kennel training my puppy to sleep in the kennel so she wouldn't get in to everything and she would cry all night long, i honestly didn't thimk my neighbor could hear it through the fire wall and i really didn't want a dog in my bed with me and my husband, but after acouple months she nice brought it up in conversation. i was mortified. i quickly fixed the situation gave up on the kennel and let her sleep next to my bed upstairs. my neighbor will never hear her crying again. talking with her could fix the solution easy. some times we just don't relise it just say something and she will probablly correct it right away. if she is a B about, well kidnapp the dog:) good luck i hope you find the solution:)

So becareful before you confront the owners of the dog, it maynot be all the dogs fault. There are laws about dogs in city limits and so forth, but they are civil matters and most police departments won't get involved!

My neighbors dog died barking, is that normal?
I feel a little guitly as mine and theirs dogs use to bicker on at each other for ages on end. He died of a heart attack caused by the barking and literally died midway through a bark. How could this of happened?

He didn't die from barking, he died cause he had a heart problem, and was allow to get over excited and he died.. It's the dog owners fault, he should have known the dog had a heart problem and not allowed him to argue thru the fence.. But you should also teach your dogs not to harass and bark at neighbour dogs at the fence.. This builds aggression and animosity between the dogs, and one day ( if the dog didn't die ) they get together and they scrap it out..
Edit : Yeah dogs have heart attacks, and strokes.. What makes you think dogs don't have heart attacks??
Dogs dont have "heart attacks" i would worry about the cause if it was that sudden.
PS-Yes dogs die of heart failure, etc, but they dont have "heart attacks" like humans-they dont live long enough for plaque to build up on the arteries and break loose, causing the attack.

Hey people drop dead too, while screaming at their spouse or an idiot driver; it just happens. Stress is a factor. Could have been a stroke, too.
Don't feel guilty; you didn't cause it, sounds like squabbling with your dog was the high point of his days anyway.
Dogs can have heart failure and go into cardiac arrest - I should know, my dog died from that but it was an effect of the cancer taking over his body. I've never heard of a dog barking to death, but I suppose if its hot enough, the age, and/or the dog worked itself up enough that it could.
Must have made the neighbors happy! ;-)

may it swallowed some substence and died suffering 2 breathe
There could have been another reason it was barking spasticly that caused a heart attack. Drinking coffee, amongst about 100 other things a dog can eat or drink that would have the same affect. Many things make their heart just about beat out of their chests, and they get easily adjitated, and freak out, then their heart can't take it.
Please dont beat yourself up over it, there is no way you could have known it was going to happen. A healthy dog with no problems will not die from barking.

My neighbors dog (ausie/pit mix) is being neglected BAD.?
I have already tried contacting my local SPCA but they currently do not have a cruelty invistagator. (Ellis county, Texas) Dana (The women in charge of the SPCA) said to contact the fort worth people but she said all the owners have to do is offer food,water and shelter. This dog is chained on a long runner but they NEVER walk, play or give him love. He is about 3-4 years old and he has beautiful blue eyes. Sadly they do offer him food, water and a igloo dog house. I just went over there to love on him ( feel sorry for him and the neighbors arent home) and saw his water was empty quickly i filled it with water and grabbed a shedding brush (they dont brush him though he has a very smooth coat it is very hot and my dogs love it ) anyway i brushed him and gave him some water. i dont always love on him but when i get the chance i do. I cant take him in b/c it is there dog and they "love him" but i can guarntee you they dont. He is healthy and neautered.What should i do?!?

Just keep it up and maybe walk him in a polite way. act like you are opening up a dog walking service and would like to walk him to see if dogs would behave that way you kind of have an excuse maybe you can walk you GSD and GR with him IF they get along well.
first try asking th eowners if they care if youw alk him etc..brush and water n feed him when their not around..if you dont have a pet you cna use this as a reason..tell them you lvoe animals but cant have any or anymore ..and youd like to help with theirs..also call the poloce if he is being left with no food or water...at least get this all on reports. good luck and im like you i hate seeing animals in that kind of invironment..
Try offering them 50. or something for the dog. I've never understood why people get dogs, and just throw them outside in a yard or chained up. They're not watch dogs, especially confined to a yard or chained, they usually forget about the dog and don't play with them, they're serving the owners no purpose at all that way, other then their selfish desire to own a dog.
Unfortunately the SPCA woman is right. All the owners need to do is provide him with food, water, shelter and veterinary care. Since the owners seem to do all of this, there isn't anything you can do.

Ask them about the breed, his age, how well behaved he seems to be... While it seems like you're not doing much, your neighbors will get see that someone is paying attention to their dog. Many times, owners will start to take better care of their pet because they don't want to look bad. Sadly, if this doesn't work, there isn't much else you can do. If he is fed, has water and shelter then,there are no violations present. As long as you do not see any physical abuse or medical neglect, I think it would be wise of you not to push the issue but still pay attention. I hope it all works out and the dog does get some better attention soon. Have a good day!

I like the advice of the people who are wondering if your neighbors would be open to you buying him from them. Also, be sure to take pictures of him with the empty water dish and things when it happens. That would show documentation of the neglect. Maybe then you could send the case to the local SPCA since they don't have $$ to send someone out? Good luck.

You have to understand that not every pet owner lets their dog live indoors and finds it okay for a dog to live out on a chain. While I detest this as well, if the dog is fed and not in immediate danger then you probably will not get any attention. Sometimes it is better to just approach the owner in a friendly way and see what you can do to help. At least you will feel better.
I suppose you could just steal him and rehome him also, but then you would feel bad about the theft.
Thats so sad that no one can do anything about it unless the dog isnt getting food, water and/ or shelter! That poor dog needs some love and attention! Having a dog in a yard or on a run isnt enough! Even if that dogs has alot of room to run around a dog still needs to be walked and played with daily! I dont think I will ever understand why people like that even get pets!.. If I were you, I would call animal services for evey little thing! If that dog is out of water, I would call and say it doesnt have water.. things like that! I would just keep calling and keep calling untill someone comes and does something! It is not right for that poor dog to live like that! Dogs are social animals and they need to be with their "packs"... Depends where you live. In New York, for instance, that's animal abuse under state law and can result in a stiff fine and a jail sentence. Other states don't particularly care. Your best bet is to turn 'em in to the S.P.C.A.

Edit: what they are doing to this poor little puppy is terrible. Take a couple photos of their yard, the dog and his shelter. Animal Control will probably take the pup away from them, fine them and leave the puppy at a shelter. Once he is at the shelter, he will be vet checked and put up for adoption if all is well, then you can go and get him, if you want :-)

Call your local humane society or animal welfare phone number the moment you view malicious violence. Your non-emergency police department number can usually direct you to the right number if you do not know it. Make sure it's an actual case of neglect or abuse though, do not make false claims or assume someone is causing harm, it makes cracking down on those who are actually doing damage take that much longer to be persecuted.

So, a neighbor of mine is selling a litter of 7 week old German Shepard puppies. I told her that I am interested in one (particular) female puppy but I'm not sure what I should ask about the litter. I know that they are APR registered (is that a good register?), have their first set of shots and are wormed. She has around 4-5 females dogs and just the one male dog. She seems to constantly have puppies available for sale! I have always loved the breed but as I already have a 9 year old Greyhound and a 4 year old St. Bernard, I haven't thought of getting another dog until lately. What should I ask about this litter and how do I pick out a healthy puppy? I want a specific girl but I want to make sure her personality and temperament will suit mine. She said that any dog would be good for me but that doesn't give me a clear idea. Also, should I be worried that she used a shock collar on the mom of this litter for the first 6 weeks of her pregnancy and could it effect my puppy?

My nearly 3-month-old labrador puppy rests only whn I put him on a leash. Else he keeping playing and tearing.

And he would keep on playing the entire time even at night if I don't chain him and make him sleep. Same in day time. Yes, he will. It depends a little bit from your puppy, to tell all the truth. If it's friendly and equilibrated, seeing more people and "live" in two place could even help him, 'cause he will learn to stay in places full of people and will be not "afraid of strangers". I've a dog who stays a lot both at home, both at office, and he learned to be cuddled and cared from strangers as his own owner.. even I never leave it alone, i could keep him walking around the office, and he will sit quietly near the clients asking for attentions.

For a couple of years, my 7 year old dachshund has been limping because of his back right leg. I have asked my mom multiple times to take him to the vet, but she always has an excuse. He is our only dog, so more than half the day he is alone in the backyard and neglected. Where are you located? I work with Disabled Dachshund Society, and know of other rescues that may be able to take your Dachshund, as long as your mother signs the animal over to them. What your mother is doing is animal abuse, and in almost all states this is at least a misdemeanor.

I am so sorry about your situation. You sound wonderful and brave, and willing to do the best thing for your pet. There are no kill shelters that may be able to help, they often will take care of injured pets, and give them a large room to live and play in until, if, they get adopted. Another option is finding a friend who will help take care of your doggy -- you can even offer to help bring him stuff and stop over to help him heal. How old are you now? It doesnt sound legal, what your mom is doing, but like you said it may not be best for your pet to turn him over to the county authorities. At worst, see if you can build him a comfortable doghouse out of something, and put pampering things inside. keep him away from your mom and as comfortable as possible if you can. I am sorry your mom is so heartless, and I am glad you are not taking after her.

You need to call a shelter to come and get him or some shelters that take in dogs and adopt them out. The dachshund rescue will take him regardless of his nipping cause it might just be he nips at you guys. Call before someone calls the police on you and your mom or she kills him by accident.

Second, some dogs get aggressive with bones, its just how they are. Everytime he tries to bite, tell him no.
Third, he probably attacks other people when they come into your house, or other dogs because he's trying to say, she's mine, don;t touch her.
okay...my boyfriend and i have a 2 year old dachshund and one of his front legs he limps on and it looks really bow legged...we did some research on it and found that it was common two this breed where they have such short legs...but as far as your mom throwing him down on it.i would look into putting him up for adoption where he will get better care than that.

I am so sorry, it has to be very hard for you. I would call the dachshund rescue and discuss the problem with them. They might be able to foster him and train him to change his behavior. Just getting in a situation where he is not in pain may change him personality completely. Unfortunately his aggression may be due to more than just the pain he has but the abuse he has suffered.
You can't change your Mom is she doesn't want to change. I'm relieved that you realize what your Mother is doing is wrong, this means you won't repeat the pattern of abuse in your own home.
The abuse has got to stop, talk to her about it in a kind but not accusatory way. But do call the local rescues and see if they can't get foster care for your dog to see if he can be rehabilitated and have a better life.

Please, contact a Dachshund Rescue group. They will take care of his medical needs, and rehabilitate him to ease his aggressions. I don't think there much you can really do!! If your mother is that self-centered she probably wouldn't take the dog to the vet to be put down!!! She'd probably would let the dog suffer in pain and misery for the rest of it's terrible existence. Sometimes it's better to be put to sleep and end cycle of pain and abuse.
Is there a humane society there or a dog warden you could report your mother's cruelty. Now I must warn you ahead of time that the dog could possibly be to sleep!!! But continuing on in that household it's no wonder the dog is mean!!! And it is no life to live with that constant abusiveness and neglect.

My mother has a male shitzu who is repeatedly having accidents in the house?
He is house trained, however he is getting old, my mother is living with my brother because of her medical condition. The dog "tito" is let outside all the time, but he will repeatedly come in the house and still have accidents after being outside for an hour or more, could this be an age problem, a medical problem....I need help, my mother loves this dog dearly and due to her health I am not sure how she would cope if he was no longer around. Needless to say my brother wants to do something, please help, need good advise

Take him to the vet. They can help with medications. It's not uncommon for elderly dogs to have some incontinence and there's no reason to have to live with it. It's hard on the dog, too. Older dogs who have been housetrained their whole lives are embarassed by what's happening - he can easily be helped. If he's old, having a geriatric check up would be a good thing for him - they can catch any problems he might have while they're still treatble. Good luck with him!
it suposse to be a wild animal it needs space from everyone it belongs in the wild. outside out in the forest or at a zoo or at a petining zoo. or maybe at a wildlife area.
When you bring him back in the house, you must either crate him or keep him in your lap, don't let him have the run of the house. You could "tether" his leash to a door knob too, for out of crate time.
If he isn't running around unattended he can't pee in the floor. Don't feel sorry for him being crated or confined. he did this to himself by being naughty!!!

I would definitely take the dog to the vet. My elderly cockapoo started doing the same sort of thing. Before you go to the vet's office, though, I would try to harvest a urine sample. I did this by attaching a Ziploc bag in the "area" using an ace bandage and masking tape. Otherwise, you will either have to go back to the vet or they will have to use a needle to harvest the sample which is costly and painful for the dog. It turned out that my dog simply had a urinary tract infection that was easily curable with antibiotics. Many people will tell you that male dogs can't get them, but I can tell you from experience that they can.
In the meantime, something to assist with the frustration of incontinence is the use of a belly band. I've added a link to a site that sells them. I do a little sewing so I just made a few for my dog. (They're REALLY easy to make) I lined them with half a baby diaper but with a Shitzu, you could probably get away with using a large sanitary napkin.

In the future, if you find a tick embedded (using a preventative like Frontline will avoid this problem altogether!) use a tweezers to grasp the tick's head, right at skin level, and pull it out that way, if you must do it yourself. Grasping the tick back further not only leads to the head being left behind, but also the squeezing may release Lyme disease infected fluids into the animals tissue.

Good grief, I've yanked hundreds of ticks off dogs and never had any of them get sick from it. The head of the tick will be worked out of the dog's skin just like any other irritance. You should monitor the area and probably trim the fur around it so you can see the area a little better. I'd make sure that I cleaned the area thoroughly with a little soap and water and then watch for any infections or reactions (scabs are good - open sores that don't heal in a day or so and rashes are bad). I would only take the dog to the vet's office if there was an infection or if he seemed ill (lethargic, irritable, off food/water, obvious gastrointestinal issues).
By the way, the ticks that carry Lyme's disease are deer ticks and they are very, very small so it is highly unlikely that it was one of those.

In the future, if you find a tick embedded (using a preventative like Frontline will avoid this problem altogether!) use a tweezers to grasp the tick's head, right at skin level, and pull it out that way, if you must do it yourself. Grasping the tick back further not only leads to the head being left behind, but also the squeezing may release Lyme disease infected fluids into the animals tissue.
Don't worry. She knows how to scratch it out. Just a tick? I think its the tip of an iceberg. Did you check under the carpet? Oh dear... OH Dear... I think you should standby the pest control guys.
You must remove the head take your dog to the vet as soon as possible.
Good grief, I've yanked hundreds of ticks off dogs and never had any of them get sick from it. The head of the tick will be worked out of the dog's skin just like any other irritance. You should monitor the area and probably trim the fur around it so you can see the area a little better. I'd make sure that I cleaned the area thoroughly with a little soap and water and then watch for any infections or reactions (scabs are good - open sores that don't heal in a day or so and rashes are bad). I would only take the dog to the vet's office if there was an infection or if he seemed ill (lethargic, irritable, off food/water, obvious gastrointestinal issues).
By the way, the ticks that carry Lyme's disease are deer ticks and they are very, very small so it is highly unlikely that it was one of those.

But you can always choose on your own with some advice from friends or whatever.), and it becomes around RM200.
My mom also disagreed with me when I asked to have a puppy. And now, she loves it as much as me too. But I had to g an A in my maths first.

I can assure you though your mothers concerns are a little extreme, dog food is pretty cheap.

Thats good and all because our dog is skinny and cannot gain a pound to save her life. (When we put her in a kennel when we go on vacation, no matter what kennel she is at, she losses weight so dont even try to think that we do not feed her because her bowl is filled all the time.) Rather than puppy food, I'd try a "performance" type diet. She doesn't need the extra calcium and such in puppy food, but does need a high calorie digestible diet for an active adult dog. Poodles can be notoriously picky eaters if you allow them to be, but they are also easily trained to eat what you feed them. Mine get their measured ration of dry food (I feed Pro Plan), to which I add about a tablespoon of canned Pedigree. I buy all the different flavors of the canned food, so they think they are getting new food every couple days. They eat when I feed them, or it gets picked up until the next mealtime. A dog's digestive system is not really built for "grazing." Food will "stick" better if eaten as meals.
Any food that contains soybeans in any form can cause flatulence. Look for a dry food without any soy. It's one of the reasons I switched to Pro Plan foods 25 years ago. It has no soy, and they make a performance formula. I'm sure there are other choices, do some research.
Check into Iams dog food food
Puppy food is okay to feed adults and it sounds like she needs all the nutrition she can get. Have you taken her to the vet to see if she needs wormed? That can make a dog skinny and have a lot of flatulence. Some doggy vitamins may be a good idea also. They are inexpensive and found in most grocery stores and Wally World.
that's something to ask the vet. puppy food contains a lot of protein for the growing puppy. while it will put weight on her, there might be another reason for the weight loss, like worms. ask the vet.
It might make it gain weight, but is not healty. The reason that puppy chow makes it gain weight is becuase it is supposed to provide PUPPIES with fat to start off with. Your 3 year old is not getting enough nuitriants it needs. (Which will result to less energy and possibly sickness) You can still give your dog the chow, just mix it with regular dog food.
Puppy food and adult food is all the same, it just have different nutrients in it. If your dog is gaining weight, you should keep her on the same food, especially if she likes it. But keep her active so that she stays healthy. Dogs are just like people and need just as much food as exercise. If she stops eating it, or it appears to make her sick, gently wean her off it. try mixing it with a different food everyday until she is completely switched.
As far as not eating at the kennel, your gog is probably lonely.As far as the puppy food, maybe the extra nutrition is what it needs. Check with your vet.

Thats good and all because our dog is skinny and cannot gain a pound to save her life. (When we put her in a kennel when we go on vacation, no matter what kennel she is at, she losses weight so dont even try to think that we do not feed her because her bowl is filled all the time.) We have changed her dog food before and this is the best she is eating. Side effects...well, embarrasing but she farts alot. And its the smelly kind.
But i was wondering if it is ok if she eats puppy dry food.

Rather than puppy food, I'd try a "performance" type diet. She doesn't need the extra calcium and such in puppy food, but does need a high calorie digestible diet for an active adult dog. Poodles can be notoriously picky eaters if you allow them to be, but they are also easily trained to eat what you feed them. Mine get their measured ration of dry food (I feed Pro Plan), to which I add about a tablespoon of canned Pedigree. I buy all the different flavors of the canned food, so they think they are getting new food every couple days. They eat when I feed them, or it gets picked up until the next mealtime. A dog's digestive system is not really built for "grazing." Food will "stick" better if eaten as meals.
Any food that contains soybeans in any form can cause flatulence. Look for a dry food without any soy. It's one of the reasons I switched to Pro Plan foods 25 years ago. It has no soy, and they make a performance formula. I'm sure there are other choices, do some research.
Check into Iams dog food food
Puppy food is okay to feed adults and it sounds like she needs all the nutrition she can get. Have you taken her to the vet to see if she needs wormed? That can make a dog skinny and have a lot of flatulence. Some doggy vitamins may be a good idea also. They are inexpensive and found in most grocery stores and Wally World.
that's something to ask the vet. puppy food contains a lot of protein for the growing puppy. while it will put weight on her, there might be another reason for the weight loss, like worms. ask the vet.
It might make it gain weight, but is not healty. The reason that puppy chow makes it gain weight is becuase it is supposed to provide PUPPIES with fat to start off with. Your 3 year old is not getting enough nuitriants it needs. (Which will result to less energy and possibly sickness) You can still give your dog the chow, just mix it with regular dog food.
Puppy food and adult food is all the same, it just have different nutrients in it. If your dog is gaining weight, you should keep her on the same food, especially if she likes it. But keep her active so that she stays healthy. Dogs are just like people and need just as much food as exercise. If she stops eating it, or it appears to make her sick, gently wean her off it. try mixing it with a different food everyday until she is completely switched.
As far as not eating at the kennel, your gog is probably lonely.As far as the puppy food, maybe the extra nutrition is what it needs. Check with your vet.
It really won't hurt the dog. It has a lot of nutritional stuff that an adult dog does not need and you have already witnessed the smelly side effects, but other than that it should be fine.
My miniature schnauzer is very vocal...?
Is there a way to break his habit of barking? I wouldn't mind it sooo much but it's a high pitched, emotional, screech whenever I leave and the neighbors say he continues on for a while after I'm gone. I have a cocker spaniel as well who is with him all the time, but whenever I leave it's like he's saying, "Mommy, mommy, mommy!" He gets so upset. He's almost 2 years old. I don't want to use shock collars or anything painful...so what are my options?

try a collar that sprays citranella,when they bark,it is harmless when sprayed,they wont like the smell and when they bark it will give off a spray ,they will learn not to bark real quick,i have used it on my cockapoo,great stuff.you can get it at the pet stores.
you obviously did not do your research before getting these breeds,,, they are notorious screecher/barkers,, do not attempt to use electric shock on them,, ridiculous and cruel,, try much more exercise before you leave and kennel them with a bone

My miniature poodle squats, sits and her bottom appears sensitive after being groomed. Should I be concerned?

if she's doing this after being groomed, when the groomer is shaving that area it sounds like they are using a blade that is too short for sensitive skin, usually a number 10 will do that, its called clipper burn, you can help relieve that by using a topical anasthetic like the ones found in hemroid medicine, or using an anti itch helps too. like hydrocortizone.
let the groomer know next time to use a longer blade in that area like a number 7, this should take care of the problem, I have groomed for 14 years, so to be honest, this is probably better than a guess.

I had the same thing happen and took my dog to the vet and he
said not to worry what happen is who every cut the dogs hair
did not use a shapened blade on the shaver. And the dog got raiser burn. The vet said you can put some ointment on it
or vasoline.
Check the area for redness, is she licking the area, uncomfortable???
Does she have a slight rash, a clipper rash is possible, did she have knots around her bottom/hind area before grooming?
As a groomer, when a dog comes in with a matted bottom, a tighter blade needs to be used to get rid of them.
If taken to close to the skin or if your groomer used too tight a blade, it could cause a clipper rash, having said this, if she had knots before grooming, she may have have sensitive skin underneath due to the fact the knots pull on the skin and over time cause skin probs.
So basically, stop her licking and scratching at the area, if the skin is red, inflamed, causing her a prob, call your groomer, inform her of the problem asap, and take your pet to the vet for treatment.
I had an owner call me, her pet had alot of knots around his penis and bottom, they had to be clipped away, he started to lick the area afterwards which caused some redness, so really it wasnt the dogs fault or mine, just all of above..i paid her vet bill because the redness occured 2 days after grooming.she still comes to me and we've had not probs since, she doesnt allow him to knot badly anymore.
yep, same things happens to my bichon. They either shave her bum to close, or the blades aren't sharp enough.

Sometimes you just have to keep on them until they get to be a year or even two. It helped me to keep a puppy pad by the door and teach him to go on that.
She may pee due to excitement.
If she pees when you lean over her, she could be peeing to show her submission.
Usually, when a house-trained dog pees inside, it just means that you should've taken them out.
